How we can work together.
Cala Counselling offers individual therapy, couples and relational therapy, EMDR, and women's group work. Below is an overview of what is available and who offers it. If you are not sure where to start, a free consultation with Hollman is the easiest first step.
Couples & Relational Therapy.
Couples come to therapy at all different points: some arrive in acute crisis, others have been quietly unhappy for years, and some simply want to understand each other better before distance becomes something harder to cross. Whatever brings you in, the work is the same: to make visible the pattern that keeps you both stuck, and to build something more honest and connected in its place.
Hollman works with couples across the full spectrum of relational distress. His approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and attachment theory, which means he pays close attention to the emotional cycle underneath the conflict rather than the content of any single argument. He works with couples of all constellations — queer, straight, monogamous, non-monogamous, intercultural — and offers therapy in English and Spanish.
Sexual Intimacy & Connection.
Sexual disconnection is one of the most common forms of relational distress and one of the least talked about. Desire discrepancy, intimacy that has faded after conflict or major life transitions, physical distance that develops alongside emotional distance, performance anxiety, concerns about low libido or erectile difficulties rooted in stress and anxiety — these deserve a space where they can be explored honestly and without shame.
Individual Therapy.
Individual therapy at Cala Counselling focuses on the internal and relational patterns that shape how we move through the world: how we attach, how we protect ourselves, how we seek connection and why we sometimes pull away from it. Hollman works with individuals navigating attachment wounds, complex trauma, identity, belonging, and the pressures of professional and immigrant life. Laura works somatically and with Internal Family Systems, helping clients reconnect to their bodies, their inner landscape, and their own knowing.
EMDR Therapy.
With: Dr. Hollman Lozano, CCC | Accepting new clients in Vancouver
Trauma often shows up in ways we do not immediately recognize — emotional reactivity that feels disproportionate to the situation, a persistent sense of shame or inadequacy, physical tension that will not release, or relationship patterns that repeat despite genuine effort to change them. EMDR is an evidence-based approach that helps the brain and body process what has been stored, so that the past stops running the present. Hollman is trained in attachment-focused EMDR, which attends specifically to the relational wounds that often underlie both individual distress and couples conflict. It can be offered as a standalone approach or integrated into ongoing individual or couples work.
Women's Circles & Workshops.
With: Laura Avila, RCC | Offered periodically throughout the year
There is something particular that happens when women gather with intention and honesty: the loneliness lifts a little and the stories we share start to sound familiar. The work becomes lighter — not easier, but lighter — because you are not carrying it alone. Laura offers occasional online and in-person circles and workshops for women and femme-identifying folks, blending IFS-based reflection, somatic practice, nervous system support, and honest conversation. Topics include self-worth, inner critic work, boundaries, relationships, and embodiment, all held with warmth, depth, and room for the occasional burst of unexpected laughter.
